Luanda - Increasing the quality and access to communications services has been pointed out as one of the priorities of the new Board of Directors of the Angolan Communications Institute (INACOM), in the short or medium term.
According to the chairman of INACOM´s board of directors, Joaquim Muhongo, the institution will continue to work to create a regulatory environment that serves the interests of consumers and operators in the electronic communications market.
Speaking to the press, after his swearing in, as well as the executive directors’, the C.E.O considered the current moment of the telecommunications market to be healthy, given the existing competitive environment in the country.
At the time, the minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Media, Mário Oliveira, recalled that the country intends to become a “regional telecommunications hub”, in which INACOM will play a very important role for the regulation of this subsystem.
The official also pointed to the extension of sectoral services at national level as another challenge that will require the contribution of the regulatory body that provides services such as telecommunications, information technology and mass communications.
“Considering the various challenges of the sector, a strong regulator is needed that meets the interests of Angolans and companies”, stressed the minister.
He encouraged those taking office to work as a team and to defend the laws and the telecommunications and information technology ecosystem, with a view to providing a quality service and transforming the country into a technological modernisation.
The swearing-in act of the members of INACOM´s Board is a result of a recent appointment made by the Head of State, João Lourenço.
As a result, Joaquim Muhongo was sworn in as chairman of INACOM's board and for the post of executive directors were appointed Francisco Quininga, Ana de Matos, Ângelo João and Paulo Paiva.
