Benguela - The Criminal Investigation Department (SIC) has seized two trucks with 113 eucalyptus from the community of Babaera, on suspicion of illegal logging, ANGOP has learned.

According to the SIC spokesman, Chief Inspector Francisco Vieira, the wood came from the municipality of Babaera, formerly Ganda, and was destined for the 4 de Abril market, where it would be sold.

As a result, he said, a 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of environmental crimes.

Francisco Vieira revealed that the man in question had failed to produce any documents, such as a logging license, when questioned.

The spokesman said that at least three citizens between the ages of 22 and 24 were arrested, allegedly involved in a robbery that took place in the early hours of April 7, in the municipality of Lobito, inside a commercial establishment.

Another group of thieves dedicated to stealing motorcycles was also arrested, at a time when they were advertising the sale of motorcycles on social media.

The spokesman called on the population to adopt a culture of reporting, notwithstanding the fact that the SIC has its own means of investigating crimes. JM/TC/CRB/DAN/AMP
