Lisbon - The Patriarch of Lisbon, Dom Rui Valério, paid tribute, Sunday, in this city, to the work of the Angolan Catholic community in supporting the needy and recognized the way it has been inserted in Portuguese society.
Dom Rui Valério paid tribute during the usual Sunday service of the Angolan Catholic community residing in Portugal, celebrated at the Church of Santa Maria Madalena, in Lisbon and which was attended by a group of Angolan priests.
The Angolan ambassador to Portugal, Maria de Jesus Ferreira, offered the Patriarch of Lisbon, on behalf of the Angolan diplomatic mission, a watercolour by the Angolan artist Zélia Ferreira that prints the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Muxima, in the municipality of Quiçama (Icolo and Bengo).
The Angolan Catholic community in Portugal has developed actions to support the needy, organizing offers of food and clothing throughout the Portuguese territory.
Likewise, it has helped immigrants from other countries in social insertion, in addition to expanding the scope of its missionary work.
At the mass, which was attended by the choir of the Angolan Catholic community residing in Portugal, members of the diplomatic corps in this country were also present, among others. EJM/SEC/DOJ
