Huambo - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, said on Saturday in the city of Huambo that Angolan journalism is growing and fulfilling its role.

Speaking to the press, as part of his working visit to Huambo province, where he inaugurated social infrastructures, including the Training Center for Angolan Journalists (CEFOJOR), he gave a positive note to the work of the media.

The Head of State emphasized that, over the years, the country has undergone political, economic and social transformations, for which journalism, like other professions, has also been adapting over this time.

He recalled that, in the time of the single party, the journalism practiced at that time was very different from what is practiced today.

'Today there is freedom of the press, it is not only the State that owns media companies, the private sector is also in this niche market', he stressed.

Investments in the media

João Lourenço emphasized that the Executive has made major investments in the Media, not only in those infrastructures that are collective that all bodies need to be able to function, such as telecommunications antennas, but in other areas, such as training.

In relation to telecommunications, he highlighted the entry into force of Angosat II as a major investment in this sector.

'We are not the time to make promises, we are the time to say what we have already done and what we will continue to do', said the Head of the Executive Power.

He noted that in the media there are two actors, the public and the private, recalling that in what is public, investment must be made by the Executive.

'And we are doing, TPA itself benefited, relatively recently, from a large investment that we are already benefiting', he expressed.

Regarding the private sector, João Lourenço said that shareholders are the ones who have to make the necessary investments in their business, for whom the media is still a profitable business.

The Role of the Churches in the Formation of Man

The Head of State also highlighted the role that the churches have been playing in the formation of man.

President João Lourenço noted the construction works of the University Campus of the Dondi Mission, in the municipality of Cachiungo, Huambo province, assigned to the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola (IECA).

He emphasized that, in general, the churches, which are true partners of the State, have in fact paid particular attention to the formation of man.

He recognized that the State is concerned with forming man, but alone it will not get there and counts on the partnership of the churches and other institutions of civil society.

'Therefore, we support each other, these partners of ours support the State and the State, wherever it can, supports its partners', he stressed.

The President of the Republic said that he made a point of seeing with his own eyes the result of the support that the State has provided to the Evangelical Congregational Church of Angola (IECA).

'I leave there satisfied and I see that the resources are being well applied, the work is not finished, only about 10 percent is missing and the respective equipment, which we will also support', he assured.

The Head of the Executive Power also visited the hospital unit of the Dondi mission, which is in a very precarious state, which also promised to provide support to improve its condition.

He recalled that the Executive has already supported the rehabilitation of the Calukembe mission, whose works will be delivered soon.

He also promised to support, during this year, the rehabilitation of the Tchissamba Hospital, in the province of Bié, as well as to mobilize resources for the rehabilitation of the Dondi mission. DC/VIC/DOJ
