Dundo - The inspector general of the General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE), João Pinto, called Wednesday for a proportional, fair and adequate accountability for civil servants who break any rules in the course of their duties.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar on "Ethics and Deontology in Public Administration", the inspector general called for the need to avoid "vindictive positions" when applying sanctions to public officials or managers who break a rule or law, especially in the management of public affairs.
According to him, "being ethical is not about being perfect, it's about being aware of your limits and fulfilling your mission of service with patriotism".
The official reiterated that public servants, whether civilian, military, political or legal, must be the guarantor of the quality and efficiency of the services provided in various institutions, whose transparency, honesty and patriotic sense appear to be indispensable tools.
"Those who do concrete things make mistakes and failures and in a period of scarce revenue in which public finances are increasingly tight, public servants need to be more transparent, realistic and open to dialogue in order to solve the country's social problems," João Pinto said.
According to João Pinto, public servants need to be able to accept their mistakes and the consequences of their actions, avoiding victimization. JVL/HD/DAN/AMP
