Luanda - The Angolan national team won on Sunday the bronze medal by occupying the third position in foil of the 24th edition of the African Fencing Championship for cadets and juniors, which takes place at the Cidadela Pavilion in Luanda.
According to the regulations of the International Fencing Confederation, third place is awarded to the two semifinalist competitors, without having to compete.
The national team, represented by fencer António Pedro, from the Ginásio Clube Portuguese, won the bronze medal after being defeated in the semi-final by the Egyptian Abdel Rahman Tolba, by 7-15.
During the tournament, on the second day of competition, the athlete competed in six challenges, where he obtained three victories and an equal number of defeats.
The athlete triumphed over Dani-Adam Fellah (Algeria), by 5-1, Sy Abdourahmane (Senegal), by 5-1, and El Moamly (Egypt), by an expressive 15-4.
The defeats came against the Egyptian trio Omar Youssef, by 2-5, El Moamly, 1-5, and Abdelrahman Tolba, by 7-15.
At 19 years old, António Pedro won three consecutive titles (2022, 2023 and 2024) of National Champion for the Portuguese club.
For the National Team, he was ranked 25th in the 2021 World Cup, in Cairo, Egypt, in a universe of more than 30 competitors.
This international tournament, which has the participation of at least 190 athletes, is part of the festivities of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be marked on November 11, next.
