Uíge - The Governor of Uíge, José Carvalho da Rocha, on Wednesday urged local farmers to commit themselves to agricultural production in order to improve family incomes and contribute to food self-sufficiency in the region.

The governor made the statement at the end of a visit to the Vila Nova farm, in the municipality of Uíge, where more than 1000 tons of corn, eggplant, watermelon, onions and cabbage, among other crops, are expected to be harvested this year.

According to the governor, with these production results, the local government will continue to work with non-banking financial institutions and others to provide agricultural loans, emphasizing that Uíge Province is a land with plenty of water and a humid tropical climate, among other favorable conditions for successful agricultural production.

The farm was established in 2018 with three workers and today has more than 60 farmers, who have committed to cultivate an area of 98 hectares, out of a total of 240 hectares available. EPP/JAR/DAN/AMP
