Luanda - The Mabunda fish market in the Samba district of Luanda was temporarily closed on Friday to prevent the spread of cholera in the capital, ANGOP has learned.
According to a note from the Luanda Provincial Government (GPL), the closure of the market follows an assessment visit by the National Commission for the Fight against Cholera, which, after evaluating the hygienic, sanitary and environmental conditions, found that the location presented a high risk of disease transmission.
"As a result of this finding, the provincial government of Luanda was forced to temporarily close the aforementioned market as of midnight on Friday, as an emergency measure to contain and prevent the outbreak," the document reads.
The GPL, the National Commission for the Fight against Cholera and Luanda Semi-Industrial Artisanal Fisheries Association are working to create conditions that will ensure the health of fishermen, consumers, fishermen and vessels.
Since January this year, Angola has been experiencing a cholera outbreak that has so far caused 197 deaths out of a total of 5,463 confirmed cases.
