Luanda - The president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Kate Forbes, on Monday in Luanda expressed her gratitude to the Angolan government for the support given to the Angolan Red Cross (CVA).
The IFRC official made the statement at the end of the audience granted by the Angolan president, which also served to talk about the challenges facing Angola, the positive steps, as well as the issue of food insecurity caused by natural disasters, particularly extreme drought.
Regarding the fact that he had chosen Angola as the first African country to visit, Forbes emphasized the work that CVA has been doing and the challenges it faces, especially supporting the population in terms of food insecurity and all the other scourges.
She underlined the importance to come and give institutional support, as well as to show solidarity with the CVA so that it could be reassured that the IFRC is ready to support it.
This is the first time that a senior member of the International Federation of the Red Cross has visited Angola.
American Kate Forbes was elected president of the IFRC in December 2023 at the Extraordinary General Assembly in Geneva and has prioritized Angola on her agenda for Africa.
Kate Forbes is in favor of a more inclusive and efficient federation to support the National Societies of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as a global humanitarian network that has helped more than 80 million people in situations of vulnerability and danger. PA/VIC/TED/AMP
