Luanda - The President of Angola, João Lourenço, will travel Monday to Turkey for a two-day state visit at the invitation of his European country's counterpart Recep Tayyup Erdogan.

According to a statement issued by the Secretariat for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs of the President of the Republic, the Angolan Head of State, who will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, will meet Tuesday afternoon with the Turkish leader.

On the same occasion, ministerial delegations from both countries will review the essential issues of the relationship between Angola and Turkey and following this act, several cooperation agreements will be initialled.

The areas of Transport, referring to the air link between the two countries, military cooperation, Trade, Economy, Mineral Resources, as well as consular and diplomatic aspects, namely the elimination of visas on service, diplomatic and special passports, will be at the centre of the negotiations.

Wednesday, the last day of the visit, President Joao Lourenço will take part in a business forum with dozens of Turkish businessmen, to whom he will present Angola's economic potential and the many initiatives aimed at progressively improving the business environment.

Diplomatic relations between Angola and Turkey date back to 1980 and are supported by cooperation agreements in several areas, covering sectors such as trade, agriculture, education, culture, defence, justice and sports.

In Angola, Turkey has investments in the provinces of Luanda and Uige, in the areas of industry, trade, education and construction.

The two sides intend to sign an agreement to create a Chamber of Commerce, as part of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Last June, delegations from both countries analysed cooperation in the transport sector, specifically civil aviation and railroad infrastructures, paving the way for Turkish businesspeople to invest in the maritime-port and rail sub-sectors.

According to schedule, the Turkish airline may begin operations to the Angolan capital, Luanda, later this year.
