Dundo – At least 30 diamond stones of various carats have been seized in the municipalities of Xá-Muteba, Cuango, Capenda-Mulemba, Lucapa and Chitato, eastern Lunda-Norte province, for illegal possession and trafficking.
The information was disclosed Thursday by the Police spokesperson, Domingos Muanafumo, adding that the diamonds were seized during a micro-operation to combat illegal mining of this precious mineral.
Without specifying the number of citizens involved, the Police spokesperson said the diamonds and the perpetrators have been forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to the Police, during the operation at least three firearms as well as several means that were used for the illicit exploration of diamonds that were in the possession of the citizens involved were seized by the law enforcement authorities.
The ongoing micro-operation, which began «early this year, aims to combat illegal immigration, fuel smuggling, trafficking and diamond mining, among other crimes. QB/HD/TED/AMP
