Lubango – At least 2,449 tons of agricultural inputs are being distributed this month to 835 peasant associations and 314 rural families in the southern province of Huíla, as part of the campaign that will be launched on Monday, Oct 14, in the municipality of Matala.
In total, more than 605k hectares are being prepared for production and the batch of inputs includes 3.5k tons of fertilizer, 575 tons of ammonium, 300 tons of yellow corn seed, 60 tons of white corn, 250 tons of pearl millet and 200 tons of Sorghum.
Speaking on Thursday to ANGOP, in Lubango, the director of the Farming and Fisheries Office, Pedro Conde, stated that 150 tons of butterbean seed, 30 Kidney beans, 336 of wheat and 48 of rice.
The allocation, according to the agronomist, includes 5 thousand machetes, an equal number of hoes, 20 motor pumps and an equal number of spraying machines, which are expected to harvest, in the first stage, 400k tons of food products.
He highlighted that as agricultural inputs arrive, they are immediately forwarded by the Institute for Agrarian Development (IDA) to municipal administrations, which are in charge of getting them to producers.
In the 2024/2025 harvest, with the official opening next October, Pedro Conde, stated that they are planning to cultivate more than 605,350 hectares in the 14 municipalities.
