Huambo - More than 2 billion US dollars have been returned to Angola as part of the repatriation of capital held abroad with the support of the United Kingdom, the British ambassador to the country, Bhart Joshi, announced on Tuesday.
The British diplomat made the statement at the end of an audience granted to him by the Governor of Huambo Province, Pereira Alfredo, as part of his 72-hour working visit to this region of Angola.
Bhart Joshi said that the British government is working with the Angolan Attorney General's Office (PGR) to repatriate in the near future 1.5 billion US dollars of the four billion planned to be collected in various countries and returned to the Angolan state.
British investment
The diplomat said the British government is interested in investing in Huambo province, especially in infrastructure in the Lobito corridor, to explore potential mineral resources and groundwater, as well as to prevent geological risks.
He added that the UK also aims to invest in agriculture, critical minerals and entrepreneurship to create more job opportunities for Angolan citizens and promote development.
“The United Kingdom has money to invest in Angola in projects that will contribute to the country's development and create more job opportunities, especially in the agricultural sector," said the diplomat.
Huambo governor, on his turn, highlighted the potential for water, climate, agriculture and other areas where the government is interested in receiving foreign investment to transfer modern technologies that will contribute to sustainable development.
The British Ambassador's agenda for exploring the potential of Huambo Province includes a visit to the Rare Earth Mine in the municipality of Longonjo, to Morro do Moco in Londuimbali, and to Ombala Mbalundo in the municipality of Bailundo to get to know the culture of the Ovimbundu people.
