Luanda – Angola's Ministry of Education since 2024 has made 80,000 scholarships available for the first cycle of secondary education for schools in the country's most vulnerable municipalities, minister Luísa Grilo informed on Wednesday, in Luanda.
The minister was speaking at this year's first edition of CAFÉ CIPRA, a forum promoted by the Press Center of the Presidency of the Republic of Angola (CIPRA).
The mentioned event addressed the theme "youth, national pride and productivity" and was attended by the minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, the minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, Teresa Rodrigues, as well as the President of the National Youth Council (CNJ), Isaías Kalunga.
According to Luísa Grilo, the scholarships are part of a total of 900,000 available, financed by the World Bank (WB).
She explained that to apply for the scholarship, the main requirement is to be enrolled from the 7th grade onwards.
Luísa Grilo reported that, especially girls, after receiving the grants, will also benefit from an additional incentive if they complete the 9th year
She explained that there are also scholarships for girls enrolled in courses at an Agrarian Institute in the country, adding that in this type of scholarship, girls will receive a quarterly amount of 90,000 kwanzas, of which 30,000 kwanzas will be monthly, in a policy that aims to promote the completion of courses.
Furthermore, the minister reported that, in the last five years, around 18.000 teachers have been trained in the country.
