Luanda - Angola's ambassador to the United States, Agostinho Van-Dúnem has reaffirmed the determination of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, to maintain the peace that has been achieved to promote sustainable development and to contribute to regional security and stability.
The diplomat also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to progress and global cooperation.
According to the diplomat, in 2025 Angola will take over the rotating presidency of the African Union (AU) and that one of the priorities, as a condition for the continent's development is continue the promotion of peace and stability, facilitating conflict mediation, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Central African Republic (CAR).
The diplomat added that Angola has defended strengthened African institutions, such as the AU, and that he believes that the continent should play a more significant role in global issues, especially in relation to trade, security and world peace.
Agostinho Van-Dúnem, said the cooperation with the US on security matters strengthens the mission to tackle terrorism, piracy and human trafficking and Angola gears up to welcome the visit of President Joe Biden, the first by a US president, with great expectation and satisfaction.
The diplomat emphasized that the event is of great importance, not only due to the bilateral relationship between the two states, but also the symbolism and commitment of the US to strengthen the partnership with the African continent.
We therefore believe that US support through projects such as the Lobito Corridor, could boost trade, stimulate industrial growth and integrate the economies of the southern African region,’ the diplomat said.
Agostinho Van-Dúnem added that Angola looks forward to a future of cooperation and progress with all friendly countries and that the partnership with the US is more than an exchange of interests, it represents a common vision for a safer, more prosperous and inclusive world that would transform potential into prosperity and well-being for our peoples.
The opportunity also served to invite those present to participate in the 17th US-Africa Business Summit co-organized by the Angolan government and the Corporate Council on Africa to be held in June 2025 in Luanda.
There was also room in the speech to reiterate the congratulations addressed by Angolan President João Lourenço to US President-elect Donald Trump.
