Soyo - The new border municipality of Luvo, located 60 kilometres north of the city of Mbanza Kongo in northern Zaire province, will be connected to the National Electricity System later this year.
The municipal administrator of Luvo, Agostinho Dias Zantoto who was Speaking to ANGOP on Monday in Soyo, said that work was underway to ensure that this border district with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) would soon have electricity from the national grid.
He considered the arrival of energy in the town to be fundamental for attracting private investment and boosting development in the region.
‘In terms of rehabilitating the access road to the municipality, there is nothing to emphasise, but the challenge necessarily involves increasing the infrastructure capable of leveraging the growth of this town,’ he said.
Luvo, a former commune in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, is located 60 kilometres north of the capital of Zaire province, from which it was recently ‘divorced’ under the country's new Political-Administrative Division (DPA).
One of the town's strengths is that it is one of the most important points for trade with some countries in southern Africa, especially the Democratic Republic of Congo, by land.
The municipality of Luvo has an estimated population of over 11,000 inhabitants. PMV/JL/DAN/DOJ
