Moçâmedes - The Moçâmedes Bay Integrated Development Project will provide Namibe with a mining port capable of transporting iron ore production from Kassinga, in Huila, and from the Cuchi steel project in Cuando-Cubango.
This initiative, one of the biggest that the Transport sector is developing in the country, is expected to be concluded within three years.
This statement was made by the provincial governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, who was speaking at the opening of the 14th Consultative Council of the Ministry of Transport, which ends next Tuesday and is attended by the head of the sector, Ricardo de Abreu.
According to Archer Mangueira, conclusion of this project will make it possible for the commercial port to become the main operator in the region, with capacity to transfer cargo between ships of different sizes and a new container terminal with appropriate equipment to improve the efficiency of port operations and increase competitiveness.
In the same vein, he said that the infrastructure would make it possible for cargo currently operated from Walvis Bay, in Namibia, to directly access Angolan territory, as well as being a privileged exit point for Angolan exports and those from neighbouring countries without access to the sea.
"This opens up a particularly rich horizon in investment and employment opportunities, via the development of the circular economy, the blue economy, increased exports and the promotion of tourism," he said.
