Luanda – Angola’s 1º de Agosto won the African Women’s Handball Cup Winners' Cup Saturday held in Oran (Algeria), after beating Petro de Luanda 23-22, following a 19-19 draw in the full time.
In a very even match in the second half, Petro de Luanda were unable to hold on to their 10-5 lead at the break, which made it easier for 1º de Agosto to win the title lost in the previous edition against the same opponent.
1º de Agosto’s Juliana Machado was voted the most valuable player of the match (MVP).
Born in Luanda in 1994, she plays right-back and right winger.
She is 1.70 tall, weighs 69 kg and started playing handball in 2005 at the Gama Sports Complex.
With this win, 1. º de Agosto added another title this year, after lifting the Super Cup trophy, which took place on the same stage.
1º de Agosto now have a total of four trophies from the event, compared to six for Petro.
