Luanda - Angola airlines TAAG on Thursday flew with over 430 fans to Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) to support the Angola national team taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations CAN' 2023.
The last operation took place in 2008, during the CAN hosted by Ghana, where Angola reached the quarter-finals, two years after taking part in the World Cup for the first time (Germany/2006).
Among the excursionists are former players namely, goalkeeper João Ricardo, striker Mendonça, right-back Renato Campos and Petro de Luanda's Marketing and Communications Director, Sidónio Malamba.
The Angolan supporters include musicians, journalists, models and other public figures taken by Boeing 737-700 and Boeing 777-300 aircrafts.
The Angolan delegation left Luanda at 8am and arrived in Abidjan at around 12pm. They joined the small group of supporters that has been in Cote d’Ivoire since the start of the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to a statement, the initiative is the result of a partnership between Angola Airlines, which has made two special services available, the National Spontaneous Movement, the Bank of Commerce and Industry (BCI) and event promoter Nova Energia.
"With this action, TAAG reaffirms its commitment to sport and the community, embracing an initiative with a national impact that unites all Angolans around a common cause," says the document to which Angop had access.
