Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço arrived in the National Assembly to participate in the solemn plenary meeting opening the 5th Legislative Session of the IV Legislature Friday, during which he addresses a message to the country about the State of the Nation.
Upon his arrival in Parliament, the Head of State, accompanied by the Republic's first lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, was received by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, among other entities.

In addition to the MPs, the event also gathers of the presidents of the superior courts, assistants to the incumbent of the Executive Power, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, civil society, church authorities, among other entities.
The Constitution of the Republic of Angola establishes, in its Article 118, that the President of the Republic address to the country, at the opening of the Parliamentary Year, in AN, a message on the State of the Nation and the policies recommended for the resolution to the main issues, promotion the well-being of Angolans and the country's development.
According to the 2010 Constitution, in its Article 157, each of the five Legislative Sessions that make up a legislature begins on October 15 and lasts for one year.
The National Assembly is made up of 220 MPs, elected by constituencies, one national and 18 provincial, corresponding to the number of provinces that make up the national territory.
