Luanda - The sale of 94 State-owned assets and shares yielded Akz 961 billion kwanzas in the period 2019-2022, as part of privatisation programme (PROPRIV).
But the government only cashed in Akz 565 billion.
Of the total amount, the government is still to receive Akz 395 billion, a payment of which depends on the time provided in the contract for the purchase and sale of the State-owned assets and shares.
Also, of the total of 178 assets and shares, 84 companies and shares held by the State in Angola and abroad are expected to be privatised, said the Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury, Ottoniel dos Santos.
Speaking at the 1st meeting of the Inter-ministerial Commission for the Implementation of PROPRIV, aimed to take stock of the implementation of the Programme until 30 September 2022, Ottoniel dos Santos said there are, at this time, 31 companies in a position to be privatized.
He also said there are 53 companies being analysed if they should continue in the programme, after which it will be decided by the inter-ministerial privatisation commission at the next meeting”.
Ottoniel dos Santos said that with the privatisation process it was possible to generate 2,399 jobs, of which 911 were new, and the maintenance of 1,488 jobs.
“There are effectively more than two thousand people who, as a result of the Privatisation Programme, have their jobs secured or have found new jobs”, he stressed.
He added that 32 units are expected to start operating as a result of the Programme and another 34 are in the start-up phase.
On the other hand, the Secretary of State said that the meeting discussed the extension and maintenance of the inter-ministerial commission for the current legislature.
Among other objectives, “the extension is based on fundamental issues such as processes that in 2019-2022 period have not been completed due to legal issues, the nature of the business, the need to make adjustments and the possibility of entering new assets in the Program”.
The Privatization Programme (PROPRIV), started in mid-2019, mainly aims to strengthen the Angolan private sector, making it more efficient and competitive, and also appears as one of the guidelines for the restructuring and resizing of the Public Business Sector.
PROPRIV is aligned with the National Development Programme (PDN 2018-2022) and is part of the public finance reform.
The goal is to promoting macroeconomic stability, increasing the productivity of the national economy and achieving a fair distribution of income.
