Luanda A delegation from the Republic of Korea, headed by its ambassador to Angola, Kwang-jin Choi, began, since Monday a working visit to the province of Benguela, with the aim of strengthening economic ties with the Government in the context of the Lobito Corridor.
According to a note sent to ANGOP on Monday, for two days the delegation will meet with members of the local government and visit Porto do Lobito and the Biopio Solar Power Plant.
The delegation includes representatives from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and companies from this Asian country such as LG Electronics and Hanwha Ocean.
The program also foresees the holding, at Biopio area, of the 5th edition of the Korea-Angola Energy Cooperation Seminar, under the theme 'Strengthening cooperation in the field of renewable energy and electrification”, within the framework of collaboration between the embassy, the Ministry of Energy and Water, Prodel-EP and Sun Africa.
According to the ambassador, Kwang-jin Choi, cited in the document, the year 2024 marks the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two States and has become very significant, with the official visit of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to Korea, in April, and the Korea-Africa Summit, last June.
"We hope that the delegation's visit will further boost economic cooperation between Korea and Angola and serve as a catalyst for Korean agencies and companies to get involved in the Lobito Corridor", he stressed.
In 2023, Korea-Angola bilateral trade was more than US$470 million, almost 30 times greater compared to the volume when both established diplomatic ties back in 1992.
This year, more than 30 Korean companies participated at FILDA 2024.
Last April, during the visit of the Angolan Head of State to Korea, the countries signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework for promoting trade and investment.
