Cabinda - The secretary of State for Mass Media, Nuno Caldas, said on Tuesday in Cabinda Province that the Ministry has a comprehensive Communication and Marketing Plan to ensure successful coverage of the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, which will take place in Angola from July to August this year.
Speaking during the first seminar on the 2024 Census, aimed at media professionals, analysts and students, he said that the plan aims to provide a quality public service during the census period.
To this end, he considered it essential to train media professionals who will have the mission of informing, sensitising and promoting the participation of all Angolans in this commitment to citizenship.
For this reason, he guaranteed that the Ministry is paying special attention to the training, preparation and development of staff, with a view to carrying out tasks that contribute to improving the quality of the service.
He emphasised that the mission of communicating falls especially to media professionals with particular emphasis on journalists who play an important role in the process of transmitting information and shaping social awareness.
In order for this to happen correctly and responsibly, he pointed out that it is necessary and essential for journalists to have knowledge of the phenomena they will be reporting on, through training programmes.
According to Nuno Caldas, the processes of communication and coverage of events such as the Census represent the highest point in the exercise of citizenship and democracy, playing an irreplaceable role in the interaction and transmission of messages to raise awareness and mobilise all citizens.
He recalled that the media outlets, journalists and opinion-makers have a responsibility to facilitate the dissemination of the necessary messages and clarifications about the Census.
During the seminar, organised by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Mass Media (MINTICS), in partnership with the National Statistics Institute (INE), professionals from various media bodies were trained in news coverage of the Census, with an emphasis on updating cartography.
At the time, the Cabinda vice-governor for the Economic Sector, Macário Lembe considered Census an activity that contributes to decision-making, as well as to draw up development policies both for public and private fields.
