About 40 percent of the white sugar consumed in the country is produced by Biocom - the Angolan Bioenergy company, the firm's deputy general director Luís Bagorro Júnior said on Sunday.
Luís Bagorro Júnior said in addition to the sugar, the company, located in Cacuso, northern Malanje province, also produces 50 percent of the country’s ethanol.
The manager, who was speaking at the conference on Agribusiness, put at 128, 000 tonnes of sugar produced in May this year.
There was an increase of 8,000 tonnes compared to the same period of the previous year, underlined the businessman at the conference, is part of the 37th edition of FILDA.
Luís Junior said that in the period under analysis, 18,000 cubic meters of ethanol and 64,000 megawatts of renewable energy were produced.
“We believe, therefore, that we are playing a crucial role, both in the development of agro-industry and in the inclusion and training of thousands of Angolans, especially in northern Malanje province”, he stressed.
He also stated that Biocom, whose production started in June 2014, also produces 5 and 1,000-kilogramme bags of sugar, marketed locally as well as in other parts of the country, mainly by wholesalers.
Biocom is located in the Capanda Agro-industrial Complex (PAC), in the northern province of Malanje, Municipality of Cacuso, in an area of over 81,000 hectares, of which 70,000 are arable and 11,000 are intended for permanent preservation areas of vegetation.
It has an installed capacity to produce 2.2 million tons of sugarcane in an area of 30,000 hectares, 250,000 tons of white crystal sugar, 37,000 cubic meters of neutral alcohol and to supply the country with an additional 136,000 megawatts of clean, renewable electrical energy.
Currently, the company employs 3,400 employees, mostly natives (Malanje province).
