Luanda - The Angolan national wrestling team on Saturday won two silver medals and a bronze medal at the African Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
In the men's category, Makaya Nsumbo katendi, 51kg cadet category, won silver in wrestling and bronze in Greco-Roman style, while in the women's category, Josette Mavungo won silver, in wrestling, while on Sunday, in the men's competition, the Angolan fighters will compete against Manaceu Nkunga Ngonda, Miguel António, Roberto Mbaio Nsangua, Tekasala Fernando and Miguel Lúcia.
In the women's category, the team will be joined by Sofia Kavungo Vemba.
Angola's opponents on Sunday include competitors from Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt, countries that usually compete for the podium in the sport.
In the event, which kicked off on Thursday and ends Tuesday, Angola aims to equal or improve the results of the previous edition.In 2023, in Tunisia, the national team won one gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
Angola is in Egypt with 13 wrestlers, 11 male and three female.
