Moçâmedes – The “Baia dos Tigres” (Tigers Bay), an island located in the municipality of Tômbwa, province of Namibe, offers natural conditions and an environmental ecosystem to be transformed into a world-class tourist destination, the Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, said Friday.
The government official, who was speaking as part of the review of his five-day working visit to the province of Namibe, pointed out the need to create strategies to identify and structure a tourism master plan, so that the potential tourism of this location.
For the respective plan to be implemented, the minister says it is necessary to have secure investment, from the private sector, which will make it possible to transform the “sleeping monster” into a tourist attraction of global reference.
He recalled that Baia dos Tigers is a semi-buried structure in the small town, founded in 1865 and was divided by a single street that was also an airstrip.
He said that, in 1975, the island was abandoned and the village isolated and “succumbed” to definitive abandonment until now.
Currently, he continued, the town is an abandoned, arid and sacred place, in the middle of dunes that move under the force of buffeting winds, being a fascinating place that delights any visitor, despite the increased risk of its total disappearance.
In addition to Baia dos Tigres, Márcio Daniel also pointed out the existing tourist assets in the municipalities of Camucuio, Bibala and Moçâmedes as other resources that can serve to attract and develop the sector in Namibe.
According to the minister, for real tourism to take place, work must be done that involves several areas of government action from the point of view of the value chain, taking advantage of various services, such as improving roads, water systems, electrical energy, communications, restoration, among others.
During the five-day visit to the province of Namibe, the governor visited the municipalities of Camucuio, Bibala, Moçâmedes and Tômbwa.
Among the tourist attractions visited by the minister, the highlights are the Tchipopilo tourist area, the thermal waters of Montipa, the Ombaka Fort, the cemetery where the Mbali arts are located, the Santa's cave, Praia do Soba, the rare plant Welwitchia Mirabilis, Lagoa do Arco, the Hills, the Tômbwa Peninsula and Baia dos Tigres, the Pink Dunes, Vanessa and Flamingo Beaches.
