Menongue - The governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, defended today (Wednesday), in Menongue, the improvement of communication routes, to boost the development of Southern Africa.
The minister, who was speaking at the opening of the First Investor Forum of the Angolan Region of OKAVANGO, stressed that the improvement of communication routes will be a determining factor in the promotion of internal and external tourism in the region, with a boost in trade.
“The province of Cuando Cubango has great potential to attract the hotel and tourism sector, but it needs public and private investment to attract thousands of tourists to this part of the country,” he said.
He also acknowledged that there are main difficulties and shortcomings in Cuando Cubango, especially the connection with access roads, airports and river vessels, which aim to facilitate the mobility of people and goods.
For the governor, if tourism is organized and managed in an ethical and sustainable way, it can also be a lever for the development of local communities, the creation of more stable societies, the promotion and protection of biodiversity, geodiversity and existing cultural resources.
According to José Martins, the forum, whose objectives aim to attract investments in the tourism sector and transversal services in the region to take full advantage of business potential, is also a window of opportunities to continue to better transform the 'Lands of Progress', where tourism is, par excellence, a potential vocation.
The governor illustrated that the context of Cuando Cubango has abundant cultural, historical and human natural resources, highlighting the falls of the Lomba River (Mavinga), the Memorial to the Victory of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, the Luengue-Luiana and Mavinga National Parks, as well as some nature reserves and conservation areas, among others.
José Martins reminded investors on the occasion that the Government of Cuando Cubango has “open doors” and is willing to collaborate, support and, in accordance with the law and the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, provide all facilities to national and foreign businessmen, in all matters that are its responsibility.
More than 200 guests will participate in the forum, including national and foreign investors, with emphasis on those from the neighbouring countries of Namibia, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana, who are looking for investment partnerships in ecotourism, tourism and the promotion of agriculture, depending on local potential.
The event includes three panels on institutional vision to attract investments, presentation of business potential and opportunities in the Angolan Ovakango Region and development in the regional context. LMZ/ALK/FF/PLB/DOJ
