Massangano - The promotion of historical and religious tourism, as well as ecotourism is a major focus of the local authorities of the new municipality of Massangano, for revenue collection and local development.
Speaking ANGOP on Tuesday the acting administrator of Massangano, Manuel Pascoal, indicated that the Kwanza Corridor, whose river is navigable from the commune of Calumbo, province of Icolo and Bengo, appears as the engine of historical tourism and ecotourism to raise revenue for the State coffers.
According to him, in the colonial era, there was a river route for tourism and transportation of people and goods, especially slaves, from the municipality of Dondo in the province of Cuanza-Norte to Cuanza Dam in the province of Luanda and to Calumbo in the province of Icolo and Bengo.
He pointed out that revenue collection through ecotourism should be done with the implementation of the toll service for small and medium-sized vessels, as well as the payment of fees for tourists and services to be installed.
“We are going to take advantage of this tourist potential that is navigable from Calumbo close to the Cambambe Dam, based on the implementation of toll services”, he said, also pointing out the existence in the region of several monuments and historical ruins that contribute to the promotion of historical and religious tourism.
Among the historical monuments found in the district, the Massangano Fortress, Slave Square, Tomb of Paulo Dias de Novais, Church of Our Lady of Victories, Ruins of the old Town Hall, House of Reclusion or Court of Slaves stand out.
Manuel Pascoal explained that in addition to its agricultural potential, the region is rich in fishing, forestry and inert resources, whose activities are disorganized and vandalized and if well used, they could generate jobs and revenue for the municipality.
Massangano has more than 22,000 inhabitants and was elevated to the category of municipality due to the new Political and Administrative Division in the country.
