Lubango – The administrator of Lubango city, Lisender André, on Tuesday said that the move created by the international activities that Huila’s provincial capital has hosted brought up the need for greater investment in infrastructure in this city.
Lisender André was speaking at a press conference launching the activities of the 101 years since Lubango became a city, held last week, which take place under the motto, “The municipality that invites”.
The administrator declared that a set of actions are necessary that still need to be developed, but international events add value to the much-desired development, with the view that the municipality's tourism potential should be further explored.
“We are watching, with great pleasure, the choice of the municipality to hold major international and national events, as a result of the trust that is being placed in Lubango, as a result of the joint action of the administration, the Government of Huíla and the community”, he stated.
He highlighted that after the Fair of Cities and Municipalities of Angola (FCMA) that Lubango hosted in August 2023, the International Tourism Exchange (BITUR) among others, the organizational capacity of hotel and restaurant units was demonstrated and raised the issue of accommodation location, a dormant follow-up.
He highlighted that the movement made with these activities ends up taking the city's image, its tourist potential, fundamentally cultural, outside the province, an important aspect to highlight, hence the need for more investment in local tourist potential.
When talking about the activities planned for the month, Lisender André, advanced the holding of cultural, sporting, religious and philanthropic events, with a thanksgiving mass having already been held to open the municipality's festivities.
Of the activities, the highlight is an ecological competition that will be held and passed on to schools in the municipality to raise awareness of the need for children to pay attention to the issue of preserving the environment.
Cleaning campaigns in neighborhoods on the weekends and the holding of a journalistic gathering to be closer to the journalistic class, a tourist excursion to enhance the municipality's tourist reference, as well as the holding of a gathering for journalists and friends, are included in the activity program.
The highlight of the event takes place on the 31st with a municipal event celebrating Lubango's ascension to city status. MS/MS/DOJ
