Rivungo - The Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, said on Thursday that the government would pay particular attention to infrastructure to promote the sector and attract more tourists to the Angolan region of the Okavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) project.
Speaking to the press as part of his 72-hour visit to Cuando Cubango, the minister said the site, which is one of the country's tourist attractions seeking to attract foreign and domestic tourists is the eastern region of Angola, as it is part of the country’s component of the KAZA project.
Márcio Daniel the government's ambition and commitment in the Angolan part of the Okavango-Zambezi is to have the same attractions that other countries have, to promote sustainable tourism, safeguarding and conserving the environment, fauna and flora.
The minister added that the communities living in the tourism areas should feel the impact on their lives, through the revenue collected, namely in generating jobs for local youth and women.
According to the minister, the Okavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area project currently has a number of impacts on the economies and people of other countries, such as Namibia, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, as it creates thousands of jobs.
He also mentioned the case of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, which attracts thousands of tourists, and what could happen in Cuando Cubango, with the creation of attractions for tourists to visit the Angolan side of the Okavango project.
Márcio Daniel spoke of the importance to invest in tourism, since it has a direct impact on people's lives and is a major source of revenue
KAZA Project
This project (ATFC-KAZA) covers an area of approximately 520,000 square kilometres.
Angola has the second largest area with 90,000 square kilometers surpassed by Zambia with 97,000, while the remaining 98,000 kilometers belong to Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia - the latter with the smallest area.
On the Angolan side, this area includes the Luengue-Luiana and Mavinga national parks, which are interconnected with various tourist attractions in the other member countries, such as Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), the Okavango Delta (Botswana), Bwabwata Park (Namibia) and Kafue Park in Zambia.
