Malanje - Tourism specialists from United States and France and residing in Namibia are interested in boosting the development of the tourism sector in Malanje province through the creation of attraction projects.
These are operators operating in the fields of ecotourism, cultural and religious tourism, among others, whose experiences they intend to implement in Malanje.
To this end, the delegation led by the Consul General of Angola in Rundu, Republic of Namibia, Oliveira Francisco Guilherme, today expressed this intention to the government of the province of Malanje, during a meeting with the deputy governor for the technical sector and infrastructure, Duarte Ginga.
According to the consul, the project arises within the scope of economic diplomacy between Angola and Namibia and will involve the presentation of proposals that will help improve the current framework of the tourism sector, in addition to visits to these points.
He said that to this end, an invitation was sent to the local government to visit several tourist sites in Namibia and Botswana, where the aforementioned experts have already implemented tourism development projects, which are also intended to be carried out in Malanje.
For his part, the deputy governor of Malanje for the Technical and Infrastructure sector, Duarte Ginga, said that the province is open to the initiatives of experts and is committed to doing everything to implement this project, since it coincides with the government's desire to explore tourist areas.
He pointed out that Malanje has a lot of tourist potential, but little explored due to difficulty of access, so the government is working to pave the roads that connect the points of attraction.
In turn, the director of the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Veloso Dala, said that the province has catalogued 69 tourist attractions and in addition, it is the cradle of Methodism in Angola, hence it has requirements to leverage tourism.
He reiterated the need for private investment in these points, and with the exception of the Calandula falls, Pedras Negras de Pungo-andongo and the Kwanza rapids, most tourist sites are difficult to access.
He also lamented the weak capacity of accommodation for tourists, since currently the province has only 46 accommodation units, including hotels, guesthouses, hostels and the like, which comprise less than 700 rooms, an insufficient number to meet the demand of tourists.
After Malanje, the delegation of tourism experts will travel to the provinces of Huíla, Huambo, Luanda and Namibe, in order to see the tourism potential of these provinces.
Malanje has several tourist attractions, with emphasis on the falls of Calandula, Bens Casados, Kadiheke and Mussele, Pedras Negras de Pungo-Andongo, Mesa da Rainha Njinga a Mbande, rapids do Kwanza, Sanctuary of the Giant Sable Antelope, among others and is one of the seven wonders of Angola.
