Dirico - Sport fishing continues to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Angola's Okavango region and can contribute to employability and collection of revenue, the director of the Okavango Basin Tourism Development Centre, João Batista Gime said on Sunday in southeastern Cuando Cubango province.
According to the official, the first sport fishing activity took place on an experimental basis, in 2023, with the participation of 25 Namibian and Angolan athletes and 20 boats.
Gime said the competition included two women's teams, and that the next one will be held in June 2024 with more than 30 national and foreign participants expected to take part in the event.
The Okavango Basin Tourism Development Centre located in the Dirico municipality at 650 kilometers away from Menongue, capital city of Cuando Cubango, has an area of 12,000 hectares and it might be extended with more investments from business people interested in doing so.
