Menongue – Namibian, Zambian and Botswana investors will take part in the 1st Forum for Investors in Angola's Okavango Region of Cuando Cubango province on January 17-22, with the aim of publicizing existing business opportunities.
The information was disclosed Thursday by the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Angola National Agency for Okavango Region Management, Rui Lisboa, adding that the "basic conditions" have been created for the event to take place, although being coy on the exact number of potential investors.
According to Rui Lisboa, potential national investors have already expressed eagerness to invest in Angola's Okavango region, as well as those from Namibia, Zambia and Botswana, who represent the major ecotourism companies in Africa, having confirmed their presence at the event.
Rui Lisboa said the forum is to increase investors’ interest in the Okavango Region, on the Angolan side, to be reflected in investment intentions that will deserve the institutional support of the concerned institutions for the materialization of the projects to be financed.
"We're in the early stages of attracting investment to the region. During the forum, six memoranda of understanding will be signed with companies and institutions that have already expressed an interest in investing in Angola's Okavango region," Lisboa said.
Rui Lisboa added that a new hunting regulations approval is eagerly awaited to provide legal support to the establishment of ecotourism and hunting tourism.
He emphasized that Angola represents the "Cradle of the Okavango-Zambezi", as it is home to the main sources of the great rivers that feed the great hydrographic basins of the Southern Region of Africa, making the country well-kept secret” in terms of Africa’s wildlife
Lisboa added that Angola is the part of the Okavango that is little known, hence the interest of high-income tourists in discovering and enjoying the great natural, cultural and tourist attractions of that region, which includes the provinces of Bié, Cunene, Moxico, Huíla, Huambo and Cuando Cubango.
The project, which begins in the Okavango-Zambezi Basin, links Angola to neighboring Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The program will include panels on the institutional vision to attract investment (with an illustrative video), a presentation of the potential and business opportunities in the Okavango Region and the development of tourism in the regional context.ALK/FF/PLB/AMP
