Luanda – Angola is due to receive two cruise ships on Friday and Saturday in Luanda coming from South Africa, with over 500 people on board each vessel, the national director of the Institute for Tourism Promotion (Infotur), Afonso Vita said Thursday.

The excursionists will visit the country's capital, Luanda, for a few hours at the main sites of reference in the city, including the Iron Palace, museums of Anthropology and the Armed Forces, the Coin Museum, the Mausoleum Dr. Agostinho Neto and Handicraft Market.

The official, who was speaking during the meeting of consultation between the Multisectoral Commission for reception of American tourists, specified that everything is prepared for the two cruise ships to arrive.

He reiterated that the arrival of cruises in the country is an indication that Angola in on right track in this area, so it entices the interest of foreign tourists.

To this end, Vita said, it is essential to improve and create infrastructures capable of responding to the demand of tourists interested in visiting the country.

In addition to that, the attraction of more investments and the establishment of policies capable of attracting credible partnerships are part of the current needs.

On the occasion, the general manager of the tourism company Travelgest, José Cabral, said that until 5th April more ships expected to arrive in the country  on  March 21 and April 20.

"The more ships come, the more conditions we will have to receive them and the more tourists will continue to spend and improve conditions", Cabral  said.

The Artania cruise ship, which docks at the port of Luanda on Friday, has an installed capacity of 600 people on board, while the MS Zandam cruise ship, which arrives on Saturday, has an installed capacity of 1,400 people and around 10 floors.

Both are essentially dedicated to tourism, making long-duration round-the-world voyages.

With these ships totals 41 the number of cruise ships that have arrived in Angola since October 2012, as part of the promotion of the national tourism.
