Lubango – Eighty thousand tourists, both national and foreign, visited different tourist attractions in the southern province of Huíla, last year, with an increase of thirty seven thousand, compared to 2022, reveals the statistics from the Association of Tourism Guides and Artistic Servers (AGTSA).
The bulk is national, but it is also worth highlighting the significant presence of Portuguese, Brazilian, French, Italian, American and Dutch nationality, whose visits focused with greater emphasis on the municipalities of Lubango, Humpata and Chibia, which hold the most publicized tourist potential, given its proximity.
The information was provided this Thursday, to ANGOP, in Lubango, by the AGTSA speaker, Carlos Bumba, highlighting that the increase in the number of tourist visits was due to the fact that Huíla hosted, last August, the Fair of Municipalities and Cities Angola (FMCA).
According to Carlos Bumba, it is estimated that in the months of April and September, hotels had an occupancy rate of 80% and in the months of May and August, this percentage reached 100.
He justified that in addition to the Lubango centenary celebrations and those of Nossa Senhora do Monte, there were other events that brought many tourists and day-trippers to Huíla, who made transit, although towards Namibe and Cunene, visited some closer tourist attractions.
He highlighted that the most visited places were the Tundavala Gap, Cristo Rei (Christ’s statue), Barracões and Serra da Leba viewpoint, due to attraction and proximity factors.
The Quilengues municipal park, as it is in the transition from Huíla to Benguela, ends up being an attraction and the fact that the town is completely restored and full of acacia trees.
According to Carlos Bumba, the Hungueria Falls, the largest in Angola, and the Bicuar park were the less visited, due to the poor condition of access.
