Luanda – Angola’s TAAG Airlines bought six Airbus A220-300 aircraft from the European construction company “Air Lease Corporation” (ALC), according to the company’s flag carrier, adding that the planes starts reaching the country as of January 2023.
In its notice distributed to the press, TAAG states that it is a purchase under the leasing regime, through a direct commercial agreement signed during the “Farnborough International Airshow 2022” conference.
The phased delivery of planes happens between January and July 2023.
The Airbus A220-300 model, with a flight autonomy of eight hours, is a latest generation aircraft, with efficiency and average consumption, versatility, with a capacity of 142 seats, of which 130 in economy class and 12 in executive class .
The document states that this fleet will allow TAAG a unique flexibility to cover the entire intra-African market, while allowing for expansion to other intercontinental markets, with high efficiency.
With the entry into operations of these aircraft, the note went on, the national airline expects to save about 30% in fuel costs, when compared to existing Boeing 737 models, on long-haul routes.
According to TAAG CEO Eduardo Fairen, this action is part of the fleet's growth plan and, for the first time, is betting on a multi-brand strategy by incorporating Airbus into its operation.
