Luanda - TAAG Angola Airlines Wednesday received the fourth of six Dash8-400 aircraft acquired from Canadian manufacturer Havilland of Canada Limited, as part of the modernisation and restructuring of the national flagship airline.
After the aircrafts, named Cunene, Kwanza and Zaire, TAAG received the Cassai (name of a river that rises in Lunda Sul province), the fourth of the turboprop model, which can carry 74 passengers, of which 64 in economy and 10 in executive class.
The aircraft, with a flight range of six hours, can fly up to 2,500 metres above sea level and can reach a speed of 700 kilometres per hour.
Speaking to the press, Miguel Paulo Cassoma, TAAG's project manager, said that the aircraft would start operating in the next 15 days, after complying with flight licensing procedures.
"This is another aircraft that will boost domestic and regional flights, for example to the Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia, with a view to reducing regional asymmetries," he said.
He said that the next aircraft, with the same characteristics, is due to arrive in the country in November of this year and the last one, during the first quarter of 2022.
