Luanda – The Angola Airlines (TAAG) has become a member of the Air Transport Association of Latin America and the Caribbean (ALTA), a statement from the organization of civil aviation companies in this region has said.
The TAAG’s membership in this community follows an invitation due to its relevant role in the interconnection between the Americas, Africa and Europe, the statement said.
It highlights that joining ALTA reinforces TAAG's international prestige within the air transport community at a global level, as well as reflect its ambition and growth plan, with a view to increasing traffic between the Americas and Africa, providing a value-added alternative for connecting with Europe, through the Luanda Hub.
According to data from ALTA, connectivity between African and Latin American markets registered a remarkable dynamism from January to July this year, with 1,268 flights operated between Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, with a total capacity of 378,000 seats. , an increase of 108% in the supply of seats and 97% of flights operated, compared to the same period in 2023.
It adds that the total number of routes between the two regions increased by 50% compared to 2023, with four direct routes currently being operated, contrary to previous three recorded in 2023.
This dynamism is expected to continue over the next two decades, with an average annual growth rate projected at 5.5% between Africa and South America, 3.8% between Africa and Central America, and 3.8% between Africa and Caribbean, the statement said
TAAG is the leading company in the aviation market in Angola, recognized globally and with sustained growth. Currently, the company offers 13 domestic and 11 international destinations. In addition to passenger transport, its fleet transports cargo.
The company operates intercontinental flights, namely the strategic connection to Havana, in Cuba, and from Brazil, via São Paulo, with the possibility of connecting to multiple destinations in Latin America, through a code-share agreement with the Brazilian airline GOL. ACC/VC/AMP
