Huambo - Road traffic on the Alto Dondo/Quibala section, between the provinces of Cuanza-Norte and Cuanza-Sul, on national road 120, was restored on Saturday, the Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Gregório dos Santos told press.
The minister was speaking to the press in Huambo province after a visit to the various projects underway in this region of the Central Plateau.
The road had been closed since Thursday night, due to erosion caused by heavy rains.
The erosion occurred in the area of Cassanga, municipality of Libolo, province of Cuanza-Sul, having knocked down the hydraulic passage and cut the connection between Alto Dondo (Cuanza-Norte).
By the way, Carlos Gregório dos Santos said that urgent and intense work was carried out in the province of Cuanza-Sul, due to the fact that access to various parts of the country, from national road 120, could no longer be interrupted.
He said it is one of the main roads that the country has and that ensures the large traffic of agricultural products, with an impact on the development of the local and national economy.
Hence, according to the Minister, in less than 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing carried out work in three directions, namely the placement of an armco pipe, nine meters and 3.5 in diameter, embankment and compaction, which allows, for now, traffic to be made over the road.
He added that, at the same time, alternatives or detours were opened in the left direction of Cuanza-Sul/Huambo, which will be ready in the coming days, which will allow traffic to be done normally, during the intervention of the definitive works on the section.
He informed that the definitive work on the site may last at least 30 days, given the technical complexity required, which will not affect traffic.
On the other hand, Carlos Gregório dos Santos also informed that the national road number 100 will benefit from conservation and maintenance work next year, within the national program of the sector, fundamentally the Luanda/Cuanza-Sul and Luanda/Benguela access.
Carlos Gregório dos Santos has been working in Huambo since Friday. ZZN/JSV/ALH/DOJ
