Lubango – One hundred thousand students aged between 6 and 15 from the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Malanje, Huíla and Huambo will, until December this year, benefit from “GiraMais” cards that allow free access to public transport, through the Integrated National Ticketing System.
This is the first phase of the project of the National Integrated Ticketing Company (ENBI) assigned to the Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Agency (AGTT) launched last August, during the Fair of Municipalities and Cities of Angola (FMCA), aiming significantly improve urban mobility in Angola.
Speaking to the press, in Lubango, on the sidelines of registration and issuance of the respective cards, the ENBI President of the Executive Committee, Mário Pedro Nsingi, stated that the kick off of the second phase starting in 2024, in the remaining provinces of the country, is expected to reach more of two million students.
Speaking regarding the registration and issuance of the “GiraMais” card to students at the 27 de Março School, the official stated that, by obtaining the social pass, the student will benefit from 60 trips/month, on the way from home to school and vice-versa.
He considered that the next step will be aimed at people with special needs, namely the physically and visually impaired and former combatants and veterans of the country, so that they can take advantage of this duly systematized document, in order to facilitate urban mobility.
He also announced that passes will soon begin for regular users, those who do not fall into the social category.
In turn, the director of the provincial office of transport, traffic, urban mobility, Gracinda Gonçalves, said the project came at a good time, as it will allow student to move from one place to another with less difficulties.
She recognized that Huíla currently does not have the bus transport capacity to meet demand, at a time when there are only six operators with 60 buses, out of the 600 needed to serve the students.
