Lobito - The airliner Fly Angola (FLA) carried out, on Saturday, its first flight to the Republic of Namibia, from Catumbela’s "Paulo Teixeira Jorge" International Airport, with thirty-five passengers on board, ANGOP learned.

The company plans to operate three weekly flights, with an average price, at the moment, of 170,000 kwanzas on the Benguela/Windhoek route.

Speaking to Lobito Radio station, the company manager in the province of Benguela, Elvis Manzambi, stated that, of the 35 passengers, 15 came in transit from Luanda.

“Of the twenty passengers who boarded Catumbela, some came from Huíla, after they found out that the company started operating its flights to Windhoek”, he explained.

Elvis Manzambi added that a South African passenger also travelled and was very pleased with the existence of this route and from there he will continue his journey to Cape Town, South Africa.

According to the official, the flight departed at 11:35 am, with return scheduled for 4:40 pm, with an average of 25 passengers, including some in transit to Luanda.

In this sense, one of the representatives of the Angola Hotel and Tourism Association, Dorix Raimundo stated that this fact will bring enormous benefits to the province, as there will be more airlines with new routes available to other destinations.

To him, it is a memorable moment because tourism moves people and Catumbela International Airport is an open door for the entry of national and foreign tourists.

“With regular flights to Windhoek, we will have many tourists visiting the province of Benguela, which has great tourist potential, with a coastline of 240 kilometers of beach,” he stated.

He added also that the climate averages around 30 degrees celsius, which is very good for going to the beach and fishing.

“The sector gains because it will, in a way, cover the food and textile industries, the hotel and restaurant industry itself, and opportunities for other investments in this sector”, he pointed out.

Fly Angola is a private airline that provides air transport to a range of destinations in Angola.

It was created in August 2018 by a group of visionary Angolan businesspeople and launched its first flight in the same month. Its main mission is to respond to the challenge of boosting safe air traffic for passengers and cargo, thus contributing to the dynamism of the Angolan economy and empowering people, connecting them with the best that the country has to offer.
