Talatona - Angola has a fleet of around 1,200 electric cars, registered between 2010 and 2023, representing less than one percent, the director of the Studies and Planning Office of the Ministry of Transport, Lenine Cardoso, said Wednesday in Luanda.
Speaking to the press at a meeting on the theme “Electric Cars and Urban Mobility”, Cardoso stressed that the government is implementing tax incentives, preparing future users of the vehicles and promoting awareness programs in the communities to get them to adopt the cars.
Advantages such as lower maintenance costs due to mechanical simplicity, reduced environmental impact, no engine noise and greater driver comfort were highlighted by the director.
According to the director, the country is committed to the transition to sustainable mobility, in line with global climate change mitigation targets.
For the participant, Pedro Quiambe, there are currently five charging stations, with prices ranging from 500 to 1,000 kwanzas”, located in Luanda alone.
Warning people who charge at home, he said that safe charging must be based on the support of technicians specialized in electricity, which makes charging at home unsafe.
As for the prices charged to buy the vehicles, he explained that they are around five million kwanzas.
