Luanda - German airliner Lufthansa's Airbus A359 aircraft made an emergency landing on Saturday in Angola, at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, after the crew detected fire in the left engine of the airplane.
The aircraft was leaving Cape Town (South Africa) for Munich (Germany), with 286 people on board, including 13 crew members and 273 passengers.
According to a press release sent Sunday to ANGOP by Airports Management Society (SGA), after the identification of the incident, the crew immediately declared an emergency and requested authorization to land at Luanda International Airport, at 02.18 pm.
All systems of the Airport Emergency Plan were immediately activated, which included the fire department, and the airport's rapid response team for emergency situations.
About 35 minutes after declaring an emergency, the Airbus A359, registration number D-AIXE, landed at 14:56 on the airport's main runway. The teams on the ground resolved the situation in record time leaving the aircraft, passengers and crew completely safe.
