Ondjiva - The director of the office for Economic and Integrated Development of Cunene, Felisberto Hisimongula, said on Monday that it is necessary for the province to invest more in the Transport and Industry sectors to leverage the local economy.
Speaking during the forum on 'The role of the transport sector in the development of the industry', in Ondjiva, he considered the passenger and freight transport service in the province to be insufficient, despite the diversity of operators.
Regarding the industry, he said that the existing manufacturing units are small and have little capacity to transform raw materials, a situation that is intended to be improved.
According to the director, the local government has been working on identifying a space for the installation of the industrial development pole.
He said that this sector has five projects financed with a value of 321 million kwanzas, among the 84 contemplated in the province, under the economic diversification programmes.
The forum is an initiative of the Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility, Economic and Integrated Development offices, which controls 700 vehicles that provide taxi services and four thousand motorcycle taxis. PEM/LHE/VC/DOJ
