Luanda - The Road Accident Prevention System, developed by two students of the Electronics and Telecommunications course, was the best project of the 15th edition of the Technological Innovation Fair of the Institute of Telecommunications of Luanda (FITITEL) 2024.

The fair closed on Saturday in Luanda, the Angolan capital.

This is a project that aims to reduce the number of road accidents that occur on Luanda's roads, as well as mitigate the damage, if they occur, according to one of the inventors, Ludovina Quinguaia.

Speaking to ANGOP, at the end of FITITEL, the finalist student clarified that this system detects obstacles and can avoid collisions between vehicles.

He added that the system emits sound signals to alert the driver and the outside environment.  In case the vehicle overturns in a ravine, the system sends an automatic message, giving the location where the accident happened.

He said that the implementation of the project will be gradual, passing a phase of testing the sensors in real life.

Another award-winning project was the Railway Line Invasion Alarm System, also developed by two ITEL finalists, aiming to alert vandalism or theft of railways.

According to Diogo Brandão, one of the promoters, this initiative fills the gap in the country, preventing invasions on the railway line.

'For example, lately, iron has become one of the most sought-after metals in our society, but this system prevents, in case of theft or invasion on the railway, specifically warning the locations where possible vandalization occurs,' he assured.

In addition to these projects, Public Vote and Revelation awards were also awarded.

The winners/winners received computers, mobile phones, monetary values and a six-month Max package from Zap, as well as will benefit from technical courses and an internship at the Sistec company.

One of the students of the Computer Science course, who won the Revelation Award, will benefit from a scholarship for Higher Education, offered by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), according to the holder of the portfolio, Mário Oliveira.

In addition, the organization of the event awarded honorable mentions to partner companies, such as Nossa Seguros, Angola Cables, Angola Telecom, FADCOM, EMIS, INFOSI, Zap, INACOM, Criative, Elisal and Centro Tecnólogico do Uige, as well as to the media, with links to ANGOP, TPA, TV Zimbo, Girassol TV and Jornal de Angola.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of FITITEL, Minister Mário Oliveira considered the event important, as it gave students the opportunity to demonstrate in practice the knowledge learned during the four years of high school training at ITEL.

Therefore, he appealed to entrepreneurs and industrialists to get closer to the projects developed by the students, so that they can be used to solve a set of problems that society is experiencing, with a view to improving the social condition of citizens and the development of the national economy.

He said that the fair was an asset for all exhibitors and partner institutions, which made the event a demonstration that Angola is on the right path of technological development.

The Minister called on exhibitors to transform the awards received into a catalytic force in the technological field, with the institutional support of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.

In turn, the Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, said that the sector will work with ITEL finalists for the continuous use of projects developed by students, with application in education.

He recalled that the sector has already been working with students in the digitalization of the education system.

For example, he said, in the public tender held in the provinces of Malanje and Cuanza-Norte, it was ITEL students who developed the application that allowed online registration and automatic correction of tests.

He said that they are also the ones who are helping to develop the application for the national exams.

Luísa Grilo also said that the sector is enhancing schools so that they can be service providers and qualify the workforce to solve the problems that the education system or society in general faces.

Under the motto 'Fintechs - as drivers of the digital economy and financial independence', FITITEL 2024 was attended by 80 students from the 13th grade, finalists of the 2023/2024 academic year, from the ITEL Informatics, Electronics and Telecommunications, Informatics and Multimedia System courses.

For three days, these exhibitors presented a variety of technological projects, showing the practical application of the knowledge acquired during their studies. QCB/DOJ
