Cabinda - The minister of State for Social Affairs, Dalva Ringote Allen, inaugurated this Thursday the North Submarine Cable System (UNSC) in the northern Province of Cabinda.
The system will enable the enlargement and interconnection of the national optical fiber network to all the country´s provinces.
On the occasion, Dalva Ringote Allen said that the act is a milestone as it allows regions in neighbouring countries to have access to these services.
The official highlighted that the Submarine Cable System is an important infrastructure for the national economy which will boost other sectors such as agriculture, energy and education.
At the inauguration ceremony that took place at the Magui Seco beach, the minister of State called for proper use, reasonable and controlled exploitation of the system and advised also the holding of maintenance for everyone’s benefit.
The minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication, Mário Augusto, who attended the inauguration ceremony, said that the system will enable the whole country to be interconnected, which is linking Angola from Cabinda to Cunene in telecommunications field.
He said that the project made the country´s telecommunications, in the current world context, a value that allows its growth and development to reach other countries, bearing in mind the dynamism of the sector in all segments.
“The government's bet is on the growth of this important area on which some achievements stand out like ANGOSAT-2 that is allowing a development and business environment and partnerships with other countries of the southern region”, underlined the minister.
According to Mário Augusto, the inauguration of the Unitel North Submarine Cable System, promotes a development trend on telecommunications in the country, with signs in the joint actions of the Ministry of Telecommunications Information Technology and Social Communication with telecommunications companies, in this case Unitel.
The Unitel system, inaugurated today, in Cabinda, is a planned network of cables connecting the provinces of Cabinda and Zaire through two distinct routes, where one segment uses repeaters that will link the municipality of Cacongo in Cabinda with N'Zeto municipality of Zaire, while another segment, without the use of repeaters, will link Cabinda and the municipality of Soyo in Zaire Province.
With a length of around 1,000 kilometres and a performance capacity of around 38.4 of Treasury Board Information Technology (Tbits), the UNSC cable will provide a higher quality of communication in Cabinda Province, promote digital transformation throughout the country and strongly support the promotion of the national Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) development strategy.
Unitel carried out the landing of the North Submarine Cable (UNSC) in Cabinda on June 11, 2022 to improve telecommunications services.
The ceremony was attended by the governor of Cabinda, Mara Quiosa, the chairman of the board of Unitel´s General Assembly, Aguinaldo Jaime, the deputy governors, members of the provincial government and traditional authorities.
