Luanda - The implementation of the "Metaverse" technology may represent 40 billion dollars in gain for the African economic growth process over the next 10 years, Facebook expert Fargani Tambeayuk predicts.
Metaverse indicates a type of virtual world that attempts to replicate/simulate reality, through digital devices. It is a collective, shared virtual space consisting of the sum of "virtual reality", "augmented reality" and "Internet".
Although it gained popularity in 2021, via the Facebook and Meta connection, the term Metaverse first appeared in the science fiction book "Snow Crash", published in 1992 by the American author, Neal Stephenson.
In the Metaverse it is possible to create an "avatar", chat with people, play games and buy virtual items, among other possibilities. Companies, in turn, can sell digital items and make advertisements.
Speaking at ANGOTIC 2023, about the "Metaverse as a tool to revolutionise the future of entertainment, content and commerce", Facebook metaverse expert Fargani Tambeayuk estimated that the platform could create 3 million growth opportunities in global Gross Domestic Product and generate 40,000 jobs.
Tambeayuk encouraged African companies, particularly Angolan companies, to invest in the metaverse, urging government to create policies and strategies to improve information and communication technologies, moving from the 5G system to the 6 GHZ band, as the tool is the next step in the evolution of the internet and will improve several sectors of life.
He pointed out as some advantages of Metaverse in immersive education, which is a method in which students interact with the content in different ways, using, for this, technological tools and STEAM education.
STEAM education is an active, multidisciplinary teaching approach that integrates the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Humanities and Environmental Awareness. This technology allows interaction between the disciplines as a central point, where the student actively participates in the learning being investigated.
