Luanda - The minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen Sacramento Neto, said the third edition of the International Forum of Information and Communication Technologies of Angola “ANGOTIC 2023”, being held in Luanda, represents the revitalization of the sector she leads, which has an agenda focused on innovation.
Speaking to the press, the minister said the fishing sector has outlined an innovation agenda, whose basic assumptions are to follow boats in the oceans.
Carmen Neto explained that the fishing sector expects to conduct this operation through a blue box system under the AIS signal.
"Through these two mechanisms we are able to track the movement of boats and it is on these assumptions that our Ministry is organising so that all boats that are in the water can have the blue boxes for tracking, but above all, have the accuracy of leaving the AIS signal on for tracking," the minister explained.
The minister explained that the device would be extended to small boats, industrial and semi-industrial fishing and artisanal boats, underlining that the process could be tested this year, with blue boxes in artisanal fishing, taking into account that the device already exists.
This is one of the fundamental objectives in the fisheries structure, since the ministry has the responsibility to make the governance of the sea strategy, the marine planning and bring the blue economy into the economy.
