Talatona - Angolan expects to provide broadband services to roughly 80 percent of the population by 2030, the secretary of State for Telecommunications, Pascoal Fernandes, said Friday in Luanda.
According to projections, Angola's population is expected to exceed the current 34 million inhabitants by 2030, with around 33% having access to the Internet. About 1% has fast Internet connection, which is at least faster than the old ISDN (over 256 kBit/s).
The data indicate that by 2021, the country had 11.25 million internet users, 272,889 broadband inhabitants, 120, 01 people with access to fixed telephones and 15.33 million with mobile phones.
The official said that the government aims, by that date, for 50 per cent of the country's households to be connected to the internet and for 65 per cent of young people and 60 percent of adults to have reached at least a minimum level of proficiency in sustainable digital skills.
Pascoal Fernandes, who was speaking at the opening of the 11th Meeting of the Media Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), added that Angola also wants 40% of the population to be using digital financial services.
To achieve this goal, the secretary of State highlighted the entry into operation of the international submarine cables "MONET" and "SACS", the completion of the construction of the ANGOSAT 2 satellite, the entry into operation of the National Radio Spectrum Monitoring Centre and gradual expansion of Angola's media library network throughout the country, as well as the N'Gola Digital and Angola Online projects.
With regard to digital security, the secretary of State highlighted the inclusion of measures to combat computer crimes in the new Penal Code that ensure security in the use of electronic communications networks and services and protection of citizens' and organisations' data against cyber attacks.
The CPLP Communications Ministers Meeting is held every two years, essentially focused on cooperation actions agreements in the sectors in which they are responsible. KAM/MAG/Amp/jmc
