Luanda - The minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media (MINTTICS), Mário de Oliveira, is since this Monday attending the World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC) of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This year's edition (WRC-23) brings together national government bodies, telecom regulators, representatives of the main users and suppliers of radiocommunications to address issues related to crucial technical policies and regulations at a global level.
On the sidelines of the conference, minister Mário de Oliveira said that Angola's contributions to the world event are being well received and that the work of the technical team, which was made up of a committee of African countries, was honoured.
The Angolan minister on Monday during an ITU plenary session praised the approval of a resolution related to the range of frequencies in satellite exploration.
According to him, there were voices in favour of handing over a set of frequencies allocated to the space segment to the mobile telephony industry.
"It was an excellent piece of work by the African countries," said the head of MINTTICS, for whom the union was strong, adding that they are happy with Resolution 599 that was approved and there are other issues about radio spectrum still under discussion.
As part of Angola's participation in WRC-23, minister Mário Oliveira held various meetings, in particular with representatives of the African Telecommunications Union.
Also on Monday, he had a working meeting with the Angolan ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Júlio Maiato.
The minister's agenda also includes parallel meetings with representatives of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries.
The Angolan delegation includes senior officials from MINTTICS, the Angolan Communications Institute (INACOM) and the National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN), as well as officials from the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).
The event is organised by the United Nations specialised agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) under the guidance of the Digital Government and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the United Arab Emirates.
